Performance

Radical arts pedagogy through performance in the humanities
Riots by the poor, a slave woman's narrative, petitioning for rights, reading and writing news. This hands on role-playing game reveals the history of childhood by leaping directly into late-18th century New York City just before the revolutionary war. It was a time of violence and uncertainty. First year students research and develop individual character roles as wealthy men, women, slaves, Native Peoples, landless labourers, or children. They imagine how people thought about the world, and to ask questions such as: How did those who were fighting against the injustice of the colonial experience somehow manage to talk about freedom while institutionalizing slavery?
